A Grand Weekend on the Estate

This post is over 90 days old and may contain outdated information, links or references.

The Estate Open Weekend (20th & 21st May) is almost here and – Hallelujah! – it looks like we’ll get Goldilocks weather: not too hot, not too cold, but just right (and dry underfoot). The forecast (at the time of writing) is for a weekend temperature range of 15C to 7C with plenty of sunshine, little wind and a negligible chance of rain.

We’re excited about the Estate Open Weekend and we hope some of our enthusiasm has rubbed off on you, our valued readers, followers and customers. Our team have worked hard to organise an extraordinary and unprecedented event for South Ormsby Estate. A dazzling range of talented and fascinating Wolds people will be giving up their time to amaze and entertain our guests over two fun-packed days.

From laser-clay shooting to art lessons, from butterfly safaris to stream-dripping, it’s all free-of-charge to Friends of South Ormsby Estate. Fancy a short bike ride? Low Carbon Louth have got you covered. Fancy giving fly-casting a whirl? The Lincoln Featherbenders & Flyfishers are on hand. Need help to find your inner artist? Rachel’s there for you. You can brush up on your photography skills and get your hips into Turkish dancing. Storyteller Keith Butters will be on hand to bend your ear and warm your heart. Click HERE to take your pick.

What, you might ask, inspired us to lay out such an ample welcome mat? For one thing, we love where we live and wanted to show it off. Chat with our local artisans and storytellers or walk our trails and you’ll soon see why. We also recently marked the 50th anniversary of the Lincolnshire Wolds AONB, so it made spring 2023 the perfect time to showcase our region’s natural and cultural glories.

Our key motivation, however, was the simple pleasure of rewarding our many friends and followers with an abundance of Lincolnshire hospitality. We’ve committed ourselves to honouring our rural heritage while building for a better future where business, the community and the environment can thrive together. We couldn’t pursue this dream without your custom and enthusiastic support, so enjoy your Estate Open Weekend with our thanks.

However you choose to enjoy your Estate Open Weekend, don’t miss out on lunch! Mark Vines and the team have got you covered but you’ll need to pre-book. The Massingberd-Mundy food van will be on hand with tasty, filling produce grown and reared right here on the Estate to official organic standards. Choose from beef, turkey or veggie chili, slow-cooked pulled beef, fresh berries and hot beverages. Click HERE to get your orders in. If you haven’t done so already, pre-book your entry tickets HERE.

If you’re one of our many gin aficionados, look out for the Massingberd-Mundy Gin Trailer and say hello to Tristan. You’ll probably get at the very least a complimentary tot or two of an old classic or a new dazzler. It’s hard to believe but it’s been a little over three years since Tristan got the ball-rolling with the multi-award-winning Burrell’s Dry Gin, his founding craft gin and an instant classic. Marie Jeanne Pink Gin wasn’t far behind and now he’s distilling one highly collectable (and always delectable) special edition after another.  Give an artisan distiller a craft distillery and magic will happen.

Finally, for the keen photographers among you we’ll be running a photo competition across the Estate Open Weekend. The winning pic will become the banner image for the Estate Facebook page for the month of June and the photographer will receive a £20 voucher to spend on our website. To find out how to take part, take a look at the pinned post from 15th May HERE.

We’ll see you out there.

If you’d like to share your views on anything you’ve read here, we’d love to hear from you. Just head to our Facebook page HERE and comment beneath the latest blog post. As ever, thanks for your support.
