The perfect wedding cocktail

After what must feel like an eternity for all engaged couples, wedding ceremonies and receptions can now go ahead with up to 30 people.

If you’re getting married this summer, or if you’re planning to tie the knot soon, nothing sets the tone and atmosphere of a celebration like your choice of cocktails. But with so many combinations to choose from, finding the right one for your special day can be a challenge.

So what is the perfect cocktail for a romantic wedding after lockdown?

We asked the head distiller of Massingberd-Mundy Distillery, Tristan Jorgensen:

“When it comes to wedding cocktails, it’s important to select something that’s a real people-pleaser that’s also a little out of the ordinary”, said Tristan, who has an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of spirits and cocktails.

Tristan has been in the drinks industry for almost 15 years, working across the country as a distiller, from the Scottish Isle of Islay to Dorset, Tristan has made drinks for Laphroaig Whisky, Chase Distillery, Newton House Gin and Avalon Distillery, before creating Massingberd-Mundy Distillery on the South Ormsby Estate.

“After the formality of the ceremony, your first cocktail at the wedding reception is a chance for you and your guests to relax and to really get into the party spirit”, he continues.

“Even when it’s raining, it’s nice to have something that’s fruity, fizzy and fun so the sun feels like it’s shining, even when it’s not.”

“With romance in the air, weddings are also a great opportunity to be a little bit playful, so I’ve come up with a great recipe for a delicious pink cocktail which looks just as cheerful as it is delicious.”

Marie Jeanne’s Pink Bellini-style cocktail

“A bellini is a sparkling Italian cocktail that originated in Venice. Typically made with prosecco and peach, a bellini is normally yellow or orange in colour, but I’ve swapped around the ingredients so it’s a little less zesty and a little more elegant and fruity. It’s also a lovely shade of pink, which makes it perfect for a wedding.”

To make this, you’ll need:

  • 50ml of Marie Jeanne Pink Gin
  • A dash of Chambord raspberry liqueur
  • A splash of prosecco to top
  • Lastly, garnish with a raspberry stick

“I would recommend serving this fruity cocktail in a champagne flute, with some ice to make it extra cool and refreshing on a hot summer’s day. Or, if you fancy making it for yourself at home, it can be even more indulgent served in a standard wine glass.

“Sipping this cocktail in the fields outside the distillery, I can’t wait for the wedding season to begin in earnest. Congratulations to everyone whose wedding plans are back on track now that lockdown is lifting!”
